His final dissertation explored the importance of integrating ecology into the built environment and its importance for reaching a sustainable society.

With a lifelong passion for wildlife gardening and sustainability he has a solid understanding of how ecology can positively benefit the built environment and human society.

His enthusiasm for wildlife has taken him on field study trips across the world, from the jungles of Borneo to the mountains of India. His most exciting project was studying urban leopards within the slum settlements of Mumbai.

Paul joined a team of leopard experts and professors studying the impact of large predators around human settlements.

By combining in depth knowledge of wildlife habitats with quality landscape design he aims to bring man and nature closer together. His life mission is to bring sustainability and ecological balance to the core of the built environment through sustainable landscape design.

Wildlife garden services

Every wildlife garden project is different and very rarely one landscape design includes the same elements.

Very often, wildlife or biodiversity plans incorporate a whole range of sustainable landscaping installations and elements.

Consequently we have listed just some of the wildlife and sustainable landscaping services we provide below.

Wildlife garden design

Wildlife garden design is a discipline which involves creating landscapes which allow wildlife to thrive.

They aim to provide a tapestry of naturalistic, wildlife, habitat while combining ecological planting and eco landscaping. Not only must wildlife gardens be attractive to wildlife they must also be stimulating for people.

The aim of an effective wildlife garden design is to bring nature and people as close together as possible. Wildlife gardens should not be simply overgrown outdoor spaces.

Wildlife garden design should celebrate and navigate visitors through various habitats enabling people to experience nature. At the same time, they should be visually stimulating and exciting as other successful garden design.

For example, gabions filled with rocks can provide visual texture as well as nesting sites for reptiles. We recognise that good wildlife landscape design does not need to be untidy, dull or boring!

School nature & eco gardens

There is absolutely no doubt that school student’s benefit hugely from eco gardens. There is no better, practical way, to exercise lessons learnt in the classroom than within the real world.

Wild gardens become the perfect places for scientific projects including; biology, chemistry and ecology.

Creating eco gardens is also a fantastic way for students to develop mathematical skills. Quantifying surface areas and volumes is vital for accurate landscape improvements and development.

Such activities can provide the psychological transition from paper to practice, often so lacking in many academic studies.

Wildlife gardens host many ongoing duties which require meaningful, physical, exercise. The possibilities for school nature and eco gardens are endless!

We have extensive knowledge and experience designing and building such ecological, landscaping, projects. For more information on these services please contact us via our contact page here.

Ecological master plans

Ecological masterplans are large scale, sustainable plans or proposals which communicate a ‘big vision’ for a specific area or region.

The ‘big vision, is typically a landscape proposal which aims to enhance an areas sustainability or ecological significance. Ecological masterplans are typical of large scale landscape planning for housing developments new towns or habitat restoration.

We can provide surveys and consultations to unlock the hidden potential of any landscape. This could include graphic proposals for enhancing a water basins habitat value or even a new nature reserve.

Typically new development requires habitat loss mitigation; our ecological masterplans provide an effective tool for communicating such a proposal.

Above is an example of one of our ecological masterplans for a new business park.

Biodiversity planning

Biodiversity is a term we have become ever more familiar with in recent times.

Biodiversity is the broad spectrum of different life forms existing within a given area or ecosystem. The diversity of such natural systems is vital for all life on earth as it contributes to the resilience of regional ecosystems.

The more diversity there is within an ecosystem the more resilient it is to external shocks. Such events can include natural or man made disasters or climate change.

Particularly within the developed world a lack of biodiversity is becoming an ever increasing threat. Therefore increasing biodiversity within our landscapes is becoming of utmost priority to policy makers.

We offer landscape surveys of existing vegetation and can provide proposals to boost local ecosystems. These can be matrix planting plans for proposed, native, forests or wildlife and biodiversity planting schemes.

Nature reserve design

Nature reserves are invaluable public places set aside for nature and recreation. Like wildlife gardens, nature reserves have to facilitate quality environments for both people and wildlife.

We are passionate about the integration of communities and wildlife through quality, nature, reserve, design. We are experienced in designing world class nature reserves which can invigorate entire communities.

Some examples of our nature reserve design projects include; wetland regeneration, species focused habitat creation and forest park trails.

Below we have included our final master plan for Braughing nature reserve in Cambridgeshire.

Habitat creation

Wildlife habitats are a combination of landscape elements which provide the perfect living environments for certain wildlife species.

Although habitats are a result of natural processes many can be a result of manmade intervention. For example, traditionally meadows were deliberately grown to provide food and bedding for farm animals.

The seasonal cutting of the meadows allowed whole, diverse, communities of wildflowers to flourish.

This led to abundant food and shelter for thousands of species of insects, reptiles, mammals and birds.

Creating quality habitats for wildlife is more about giving nature everything it needs! Our wildlife design services will help to link up and enhance existing habitats as well as creating new habitat.

Wildlife garden maintenance

Wildlife garden maintenance is very different from typical garden maintenance.

Often referred to as habitat management such maintenance is carried out at a much lower frequency. Machinery usually limited to once a year when it can not disturb breeding or hibernating wildlife.

We are experts in wildlife garden maintenance and experienced in putting together habitat management plans. If you require seasonal maintenance for your wildlife garden do not hesitate to contact us here.

What Our Clients Are Saying

Paul laid a very curvy brick mow strip all around our lawn and also added a circular patio and added some new grassed areas. He paid so much attention to each brick laid to make sure the end results was perfect. Despite the wet and muddy work everything was made good and looked amazing once finished. His enthusiasm and knowledge for the garden and plants was infectious. He even fixed a couple of broken paving slabs that he saw down our side alley without being asked It is refreshing to see someone take so much pride and care in their work and we would definitely book him again for any other garden project.
