Fully qualified landscapers in Aylesbury

Buckinghamshire landscape gardeners are a small landscaping company run by landscape architect and garden builder Paul Nicolaides. After spending younger years as a gardener in his spare time he had a thorough knowledge of gardening before entering the work place.

In subsequent years working for landscaping companies large and small he has gained an extensive knowledge of the landscaping industry. He has worked on small garden projects to larger commercial sector landscaping such as the Olympic Village. Paul’s trades include being a bricklayer and general garden builder.

Paving & Patios in Aylesbury

We have many years of experience of building patio and paving projects in Aylesbury and the greater Buckinghamshire area. Not only can we build paving to an extremely high standard we can also help you plan and design the project.

With our landscape design knowledge we can work with you come up with a sophisticated scheme that matches your tastes. The most important part of successful paving is the correct construction method. Patios should be excavated to at least a depth of 160mm. Then a 100mm layer of compactable mot type 1 should be spread and then compacted.

Paving should then be laid on at least a 40mm layer of wet 1:4 mortar mix. It is essential that this mortar mix is consistent and there are no voids under the paving.  Why not view some of our Aylesbury landscape gardening projects which include paving below. Or check out our paving article here.

Driveways in Aylesbury

Building driveways is another area of our local expertise. Whether you need a large permeable driveway or just traditional driveway solution we can give you the best advice. We can also give you advice on and install suitable drainage including gulley’s and soak ways.

We have extensive knowledge on all the options you have available to you when planning a driveway in Aylesbury. Below we have left some images of some of our completed projects. We always excavate driveways to a depth of 240mm and spread a 150mm layer of compactable mot type 1. This creates the perfect base for taking the heavy loads of vehicular traffic.

Watch one of driveways being built below:

Decking in Aylesbury

Decking is a popular way to resurface areas of your garden and with good reason. It is generally easier and cheaper to install without the need for digging out large amounts of soil. The latter is typical for paving and this can be where much of the material and labour costs builds up.

Be warned though paving in our opinion is a much more robust and permanent solution compared to decking. All decks being constructed with timber are susceptible to rot eventually. On the other hand decking does come in a wide variety of exciting styles and materials. We have experience in installing all kinds of garden decks in Aylesbury and surrounding areas.

Fencing in Aylesbury

Fencing is a necessary element of most gardens and Aylesbury is no exception. Fencing provides security and both visual and physical barrier to other gardens. For this reason when installing new fences it is good to plan with quality and longevity in mind.

A weak or old fence can blow down in heavy wind creating an unexpected expense and cause friction with neighbours. We can advise you on some of the options available to you when planning a new garden boundary.

From decorative slotted fences to more traditional panels and close board fencing we do it all. If you need fencing services in Aylesbury or surrounding areas do not hesitate to contact us here.

Turfing in Aylesbury

There are very few garden owners who do not long for the perfect garden lawn. Grass gives us the perfect multi use surface for garden activities or just lounging around in the summertime.

Most of the time however lawns can be the original grass that came with house when it was built. This can result in a patchwork of weeds, moss and heavy areas of compaction with little or no drainage. The truth is if a lawn is not scarified and treated a decent quality will only last for about 20 years.

After this time it is best to re-work the ground and relay a fresh lawn. This will give the opportunity to add some organic matter, drainage and a resilient grass species to last the test of time. If you require a landscape gardener in Aylesbury that can sort out your garden lawn email us your requirements here.
Turfing

Artificial lawn

Artificial lawns have become a really popular way to landscape gardens for low maintenance. With artificial lawns you get the effect and feel of a lawn without the cutting. It is important to remember however that this synthetic grass needs to be based up properly.

This can mean a fair amount of garden excavation work and bringing in new sub base. Hence artificial lawn is more costly than what most people initially think. This is of course unless there are landscapers prepared to not do the work properly for less. Be very wary of exceptionally low prices.

Artificial lawn has come a very long way since it was first developed for the market. There are now extremely life like lawns which are very durable and perfect for most gardens. We have much experience of laying artificial lawns so if you need a landscape gardener in Aylesbury who can contact us today.

Planting

Planting can be a tricky subject for many landscape gardeners as not all local companies have a good knowledge of plants. You may wish to come up with a new planting scheme for your Aylesbury garden or develop existing borders. We can execute a whole range of planting services including assessing soil types and soil improvement projects.
We can implement detailed planting design drawings and larger matrix planting design. Our professional landscape gardeners in Aylesbury are used to dealing with living planting material at any time of year. Do you need planting services which have sound horticultural knowledge and the muscle to execute it? If so contact Buckinghamshire landscape gardeners here.

Garden design

As Paul our director is a qualified landscape architect it makes garden design for us second nature. When we come to survey your garden we will instantly start the creative process. This will involve advising you on what we feel the space needs. Through a process of brainstorming and reviewing precedent images we can work a new design theme you will love.
Because we have such an in depth knowledge of garden design and construction we know how far your budget will go. We will make sure that the money you are willing to spend will also go the furthest. We have extensive experience at designing and building gardens in Aylesbury and the surround areas. We have experience with local conditions including soil types and climate to design your garden to its maximum potential.

Garden drainage

Garden flooding and boggy conditions are becoming more common every year in Aylesbury. The reason for this is more unpredictable weather conditions and over development. People today with their busy lives are gardening less and less.

Extensive areas of hard surfacing can mean less garden maintenance but also mean much more flood water that cannot escape back into the ground. It is important that all landscape gardeners incorporate garden drainage into all their projects.

Here at Buckinghamshire landscape gardeners we always do a full assessment of a gardens hydrology. We provide garden drainage services including gulley's soak ways and ecological drainage. We cover Aylesbury and all the surrounding areas including most of Buckinghamshire.

Wildlife gardens

Wildlife gardens are becoming more and more popular every year. In the last 30 years we have all become more and more aware of the huge decline in wild garden species. Some of these include beneficial insects such as bees, solitary wasps, amphibian’s small mammals and birds.

Many gardeners in the past assumed that all wildlife was bad. This led to tidying up overgrown areas and keeping generally stale gardens with no nooks and crannies. This mainly affected the creatures that ate garden pests leading to an explosion of garden pests and a rise in insecticide use.

Insecticides also killed beneficial species as well as pests meaning a continuous cycle ecological unbalance. Wildlife gardens can help to rebalance local ecology and allow us to enjoy being close to wildlife once again.

There are multiple ways to attract wildlife to your garden including simple installations or larger wildlife landscaping. Providing shelter in the form of nesting boxes, insect hotels and hedgehog homes are a quick solution. Providing feeding areas is a great way to attract wildlife and improve nature watching potential.

The best way however to encourage wildlife to your garden is to re plan it for wildlife. This could mean adding a wildlife pond and growing plants which encourage biodiversity. We are experts at planning gardens for wildlife so if you require these services in Aylesbury please email us here. We have an enthusiastic team of landscape gardeners experts at wildlife gardening.

Edible gardens

Many people are becoming very interested in producing food from their own gardens. A series of supermarket scandals in recent years have shown what little control we have over our food. With the food we eat also linked to global ecological problems people want to eat locally more and more. Food grown organically in gardens tastes far better that those bought in shops.

Our landscape gardening services in Aylesbury include many installations that can facilitate food growing. A very typical service we provide is raised vegetable plots built with either timber sleepers or Brick. These are filled with compost rich soil perfect for crop growing. These raised vegetable beds are the perfect height for working without any strain on the lower back.

We also have an extensive knowledge of less well known edible plants which can be used in planting schemes. Some of these are very attractive and would not look out of place in any flower border.

What Our Clients Are Saying

Paul laid a very curvy brick mow strip all around our lawn and also added a circular patio and added some new grassed areas. He paid so much attention to each brick laid to make sure the end results was perfect. Despite the wet and muddy work everything was made good and looked amazing once finished. His enthusiasm and knowledge for the garden and plants was infectious. He even fixed a couple of broken paving slabs that he saw down our side alley without being asked It is refreshing to see someone take so much pride and care in their work and we would definitely book him again for any other garden project."
