Buckinghamshire landscape gardeners have designed and built numerous patios across bucks and are experts in their high quality execution. The style and material of surfacing you choose when creating a new patio depends on your personal taste or the theme set by your property or it’s interior. Patios have to be functional but at the same time pleasing to the eye, we can advise you on a solution which best suits your garden.

A well built and situated garden patio will give you years of usage and pleasure. In my personal opinion paving is a much more economical solution to an outside garden space. Decking although quick and convenient can lead to hours of seasonal maintenance and within a period of ten years leaving you with a slippery unstable hazard. A well built patio using natural stone will last for 100 years so we would advise spending that little extra and invest in natural stone paving for your outside spaces.

There are many accreditations and specifications today regarding various paving installers all of which pay the host a monthly cost to be referred projects.  When seeking a professional patio & paving expert just remember the following:

Make sure they specify the depth they will dig out to accommodate the base for the new paving. They should be digging out a minimum of 6 inches for human traffic and spreading 4 inches of compactable hardcore underneath the patio. Much of the subsoil in Buckinghamshire including Amersham, Aylesbury & High Wycombe is chalk which is quite sturdy subsoil. Having said this some areas are heavy clay and may need more excavation due to the moisture content of the surrounding ground.

The second most important aspect is the contractor uses a 4-5 in 1 mortar sharp sand mortar mix and does ‘dob’ the slaps on the corners but lays the paving on a solid, consistent mortar mix. This requires more skill but ensures no gaps or voids under the paving to ensure maximum bondage to the paving material. We also add a PVA admixture to ensure an extra strong bond and maximum weather seal.

As long as the contractor or landscaper you used specifies their methods or using this article to ensure they abide by these specifications you will have a patio that is robust and will last your lifetime!
